One night at a dinner party…

Someone from Microsoft was talking Steve’s ear off.

“Wait until you see what we’ve done with the tablet…”

“It has a stylus and everything…”

Steve: “A what?”

The next morning Steve went into work and said:

“”Fuck this, let’s show him what a tablet can really be.”

3 years later, this is Life on iPad…

In 1980, Steve Jobs told a story.

It was about the efficiency of locomotion of various species (including us).

How many kilo-calories per kilometer did each animal spend to move?

The condor won.

Humans were about a third of the way down on the list.

Not an impressive showing.

But then they measured a human on a bicycle.

We killed it.

Far exceeding the efficiency of the condor.

It was the clearest example of how we’re fundamentally toolmakers.

After this experiment, Steve declared the computer a bicycle for the mind.

33 years later, Steve’s idea for a mobile tool box in your hands is coming to fruition.

One app at a time.

F.W.C. Berston Field House is a recreation center in North Flint.

It’s been there since 1923.

After a full day of work, coach Jason Crutchfield volunteers his time.

5 nights a week. 2 hours at a time.

Dead of winter cold.

Height of summer heat.

No matter what, the place is buzzing.

…..

…..

Inside.

The air doesn’t move.

It smells like sweat and hand wraps.

Photos of Ali and posters of the Direll brothers are taped to the walls with scotch tape.

Jump ropes and dusty speed bags litter the floor.

In the middle of it all is an old boxing ring.

…..

…..

Jason has been coaching Claressa since she was eleven.

Like every coach, he’s always wanted a champion.

He just never thought it’d be a girl.
